A Simple Hello, Long Overdue

“Even a cliché, when spoken at the right moment, holds a power that cannot be ignored.”

I came across this line in a newsletter one day and liked it so I wrote it down in my notebook. I’ve been wondering how to begin this greeting, “How have you been?” “May the peace of the Lord be with you”? Or perhaps just a simple “Hallelujah!” They’re all familiar and ordinary greetings, aren’t they? But to be honest, it’s been quiet some time since I last offered even one of these simple words. And even though they may seem casual or routine, now that I’m finally writing again, even this small greeting brings me joy and refreshes my spirit.

How have you been?

Mornings at the University of the Nations, Jeju follow a familiar rhythm. As light rises in the east, students make their way to Malmstadt Hall. This spring quarter of 2025, we’ve had young children on campus, so even before the adults arrive, their joyful voices echo throughout the campus. After breakfast, the sound of praise and prayer begins to pour out from each classroom.

In the lecture rooms of DTS, Crossroads DTS, Chronological SBS, and SOIWSW (School of Intercession, Worship, and Spiritual Warfare), worship is always passionate and full of life. We’re now approaching the final stretch of the spring quarter, a season when everyone is especially busy preparing for outreach. After a long stretch of cold and windy days, we are now leaving behind the fresh, bright spring skies of Jeju as we send out outreach teams to France, Georgia, Türkiye, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Nepal, Indonesia, and more. At the end of a full day, the western sky turns crimson with sunset. When evening falls over the campus, our staff and students gather for Thursday Evening Worship, and on Friday morning, we come together for 7.14 Fasting and Prayer to intercede for the nation and people.

We live and walk together in this way because we believe God has a unique purpose for each person here. And when these three months come to an end, everyone is sent out again, as missionaries, as disciples of Christ, and as followers of Jesus living out His calling where they go.

At UofN Jeju, we long to fully dedicate ourselves to Jesus’ command in Matthew 28:19, “Go and make disciples of all nations.” And to do that, we need your prayer and support. Would you take a moment each week to pray for UofN Jeju? We’’ll continue to send our simple ordinary greeting – but is never insignificant – so that you might remember to pray for us.

With love and blessing,

— Sokgon Park, Campus Director
